Kyushu VR

Kyushu VR is a series of immersive travel documentaries exploring the Kyushu region of Japan.

We blend real 360-degree video footage with AI-generated illustrations and historical scenes, drawing inspiration from Japan’s rich anime culture. This mix offers viewers a unique perspective on Kyushu’s landscapes and history.

The series covers some of the nature and culture of Kyushu. We step into the region’s intense volcanic activity, exploring both its geological aspects and cultural impact on local life. We also feature the subtropical island of Yakushima, known for its stunning natural beauty, successful conservation efforts, and its inspiration in story-telling such as Studio Ghibli’s ‘Princess Mononoke’. Another episode focuses on the city of Nagasaki, the second city in the world after Hiroshima to suffer a nuclear attack.

We would like to extend this style of immersive travel experiences to other parts of the world. If you have ideas on a potential collaboration, please get in touch.

Artificial intelligence (AI) in the creative industries

We have deliberately used as much AI as possible in this project to test the current limits of AI assisted immersive production. This includes, 360 immersive worlds, 2D images, video, script writing, voice-over and music. This is not an attempt to replace human creatives, more an exploration of AI’s current capabilities and potential future impact on the creative industries. We believe generative AI and large language models can help scale up productions, especially those with limited budgets. Our mission is to harness these AI tools to enhance creativity, storytelling, and educational content, opening up new possibilities in immersive media production.
